Frequently Asked Questions
Q. Why should I choose Noirot over the others?
A. Noirot have manufactured and refined their Panel Heating Range in France over the past 40 Years. During this time they have continuously researched and obtained the best quality parts to offer the most efficient and economical product on the market. This was achieved with the exclusive one piece Monobloc Aluminium Electric Element, which has a World Wide Patented Design and a lifetime guarantee not to make a noise. An extremely accurate Electronic Thermostat, reads the room temperature every 30 seconds, plus the unique lifetime full replacement warranty, makes Noirot the No.1 choice Electric Panel Heater in Australia.
Q. What does it mean that the Thermostat reads the room temperature every 30 seconds and how does that make the Noirot heater more efficient and economical?
A. By reading the temperature every 30 seconds the Electronic Thermostat will create an on / off cycle to maintain the comfort level which you have chosen on the dial instead of allowing the temperature to drop, up to 4 degrees in some cases, which most Mechanical Thermostats do, before switching the Element back on.Economy is therefore achieved by not having to waste energy to raise the temperature 4 or so degrees to regain your chosen comfort level.
Q. My heater doesn't switch on
A. After sustained inactivity the battery can lose it's initial charge, this can be best likened to that of a car battery. All that is required is to leave the heater on and plugged in over night where it will then retain it's initial charge.
Q. This sounds complicated, how do I choose my comfort level?
A. The advantage of the Electronic Thermostat is that it does the work for you. All you do is switch the heater on and turn the Thermostat dial till the light comes on. After a short time ( This will depend on the size of the room, but usually between 15 & 20 mins.) you will feel the temperature in the room, if it is too hot turn the dial down, if it is too cold turn the dial up. Once you achieve your comfort level then the Electronic Thermostat will cycle on and off automatically.
Please note that when you turn the dial down you will notice that the light goes off and it will stay off until the temperature in the room drops below the setting on the dial.Example : Turn heater on, light comes on at No.6 on the dial, this equals 21º.
Turn dial down to No.5 on the dial, this equals 19º, light will not come on till
the temperature in the room drops below 19º.
Q. How does a heater without a Fan successfully heat a room?
A. Fan heaters rely on the force of the fan to distribute hot air into the room, this is noisy and uncomfortable plus it forces the lighter hot air up to the ceiling. The Noirot heating system uses Natural Convection to ease the hot air into the room. Natural convection means the heavier cold air is attracted to the electric element, heated inside the heater and then becomes lighter hot air which is pushed out the top of the heater by more cold air from the bottom, therefore creating a clean, silent, allergy friendly cycle into the room.
Q. Why is “Natural Convection” more allergy friendly than "Fan Driven"?
A. Because the majority of Fans are located at the bottom of the heater, the force of the air stirs and spreads dust particles at floor level, so as to cause irritation and discomfort to sufferers of Asthma and other Allergies.
Q. How do I work out which size heater is suitable for my requirement?
A. We recommend the rule of thumb of 100 watts per square metre. This is provided that:
a. Height of the ceiling is up to 2.7m.(9ft.).
b. Walls and ceilings are insulated.
c. There are floor and window coverings.
d. Draughts should be kept to a minimum.Example : Room size = 5 metres in length x 4 metres in width = 20 square metres. 20 square metres x 100 watts = 2000 watts.
Q. Are Noirot Heaters very expensive to install?
A. Noirot Heaters are designed for D.I.Y. installation. They can be either installed on the wall, with the Wall Bracket and plugged in with the Flexible Lead and Plug supplied, or free standing on the optional plastic “Easy Glide Castors”, for convenient mobility between rooms.
If the installation is to be direct wired, the work must be carried out by a Licensed, Registered Contractor who is required to issue a "Certificate of Electrical Safety".
Q. How much will it cost to run?
A. There are two major factors governing the running costs. Firstly, the tariff charged by the Electrical Authority who supplies Electricity to the property. Secondly and most importantly is that the heater is sized correctly for the room it is to heat.
(Please note that it is not possible to heat an entire house with just one heater). Example : Tariff charged = $0.14c. per Kw/h *
1000 watts heater running cost = 14 cents per hour maximum.
Electronic Thermostat on/off Cycle = 7 cents per hour : 50% saving.
2000 watts heater running cost = 28 cents per hour maximum.
Electronic Thermostat on/off Cycle = 14 cents per hour : 50% saving.
2400 watts heater running cost = 33.6 cents per hour maximum.
Electronic Thermostat on/off Cycle = 16.8 cents per hour: 50% saving.
* (Please note that Tariff used in this example is approximate only, please refer to your current Electricity bill or contact your Electricity Supplier for accurate Tariff charges).
Q. My Thermostat only comes on after I set it on 5 or 6 on the dial, is it faulty?
A. No, when the heater is switched on the Thermostat actually reads the temperature in the room, therefore it will not come on until you choose a setting on the dial above the actual temperature in the room. For example : Room temperature is 15º
15º on the Dial = No.3
Thermostat will not turn on until Dial is set on No.4
Room temperature is 17º
17º on the Dial = No.4
Thermostat will not turn on until Dial is set on No.5
(Please refer to Temp. Range below for complete list of degrees). Approx. Temperature Range :1 = 11º, 2 = 13º, 3 = 15º, 4 = 17º, 5 = 19º, 6 = 21º, 7 = 23º, 8 = 25º, 9 = 27º.
Q. Is it safe to use a Noirot Electric heater in the Bathroom?
A. Yes, Noirot heaters are Double Insulated, tested and approved as per: Australian/New Zealand Standards (AS/NZS 3000:200 Wiring Rules) which allows Noirot heaters to be installed within Zone 2 in a Bathroom, provided the controls cannot be reached by a person in the bath or shower.
Q. Is the Noirot Electric Panel Heater safe near children?
A. Noirot heaters are not intended for use by young children or infirm persons unless they have been adequately supervised by a responsible person to ensure that they can use the heater safely. Young children should be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the heater because the surface temperature of the heater, whilst it complies with safety standards, does get hot.
Q. What happens if the heater is accidentally covered and no air can get in or out?
A. We recommend the following clearance be maintained at all times :Minimum of 150mm. from the floor.
Minimum of 100mm. top and sides.
Minimum of 500mm. from the front.
This is necessary so as not to activate the "Over Temperature Thermal Cut-Out" which is designed to turn the heater off if air vents are covered and air flow is interrupted. If this was to happen then the heater would need to be switched off, unplugged from the power point, the obstruction removed, plugged in again and switched back on. The Thermal Cut-Out will reset after a few minutes and the heater will function normally.
